Books by James Allen

James AllenJames Allen (1864-1912, English) was a Victorian writer of books that would today be termed “motivational,” or related to “personal growth.”  His best known work was his second book, As a Man Thinketh.  His first book was The Path to Prosperity.  Allen, an Anglican, was also strongly influenced by Tolstoy’s moral philosophy and by Buddhist teachings; his books present a brilliant synthesis of “right thinking” from a variety of sources, and he himself believed that ” . . . until you can regard men of all religions and of no religion with the same impartial spirit, with all freedom from dislike, and with perfect equanimity, you have yet to strive for that Love which bestows upon its possessor freedom and salvation.”
